K.C. Frogge: Music

Don't Follow Me

(K.C. Frogge)

Music and Lyrics by K.C. Frogge
I was inspired to write this song after viewing the Tina Turner autobiographical movie "What's Love Got To Do With It?", and decided to pen a strong, final statement to stand up to domestic violence and declare independence on behalf of battered women everywhere who stand up and reclaim their lives, building up their own personal lives in triumph over struggle. I hope to be able to donate proceeds from the performance of this song at events to battered women's shelters and causes related to domestic violence.
I know your kind
You think I'm totally blind,
so you've come to steal my heart away.
But I've been watching you,
and not like I used to do,
so if you think you're coming back to stay,

You'll just be knocking on the wrong front door
if you think that you're coming around for more.
Those are sure nice words from you
but I've found somebody new
so thank you honey, but don't follow me.

It's just too bad...
a crystal ball is what I wish I had;
I could have seen that you didn't believe in me.
It could have been fun
but you had to pack your bags and run.
I've still got my dreams to keep me company.

So do't come knocking on the wrong front door
It'll never be the same as it was before;
because for all you think it's worth,
I would have followed you to the ends of the earth
but now I'm okay honey, so don't follow me.

There was a time
when all I had was one thin dime
and a pocket full of eager dreams.
But I found my way
even though I had dues to pay...
how do you think rivers comes from streams?

So don't come knocking on the wrong front door...
the "me" you're used to doesn't live here anymore.
And here's some wisdom now that we're apart,
before you break some other heart:

Follow your dreams, honey
but don't follow me.
And I thank you honey,
but don't follow me.
No thank you honey,
don't follow me.
