K.C. Frogge: Music
AMERICA (2009) (Dedicated to the Marriage Equality Movement)
(K.C. Frogge)
May 31, 2009
Original music by Neil Diamond; lyrics re-written by K.C. Frogge
State by state, marriage equality is being recognized as the fair solution to the current GLBT civil rights issue... and no amount of fearful "rationalization" to deny it from any detractor can hide the obvious: that loving, committed couples of either gender only want the same rights, responsibilities, and freedoms to live their lives in peace, acceptance and prosperity. I salute those who dare to dream and devote themselves completely to the one they love.
Far... we have come very far
we're getting close
but haven't reached our star
Free, we all want to be free
to realize
our matrimonial dreams
In the courts and through the states,
it's coming to America
Never second-class again
It's coming to America
Unknown, back in the Stonewall days
Now arm-in-arm in a public space
Never apart to be torn
Never apart to be torn
Home is where we'll take our rightful place
Jake with Ted and Elaine with Grace
Marriage rights will be sworn
Marriage rights will be sworn
Everywhere, an enlightened world
is asking "Where's America?"
And when that rainbow flag's unfurled
It's coming to America
Live the dream, we'll make it there
It's coming to America
Spouses for Life, they're everywhere
It's coming to America
It's coming to America
It's coming to America
It's coming to America
It's coming to America
Today! (Massachusetts)
Today! (Connecticut)
Today! (Vermont)
Today! (Iowa)
It's our country, and if we're free
Give us our liberty
With our wedding rings
With our wedding rings
Today! (Maine)
Today! (New Hampshire)
Today! (New York)
Today! (D.C.)
and then
Someday! (Idaho)
Someday! (Texas)
Someday! (Utah)
Someday! (Kansas)
and of course,
Today! (California)
